We recently tried Funvention’s 3D model kit. The kit offers interesting building time with its pre-cut cardboard parts to create a 3D model. Each kit comes with materials and instructions for one specific model. We have the Apatosaur and Goldimo building models, of which the first is covered in this post. You can check Funvention’s Amazon page for all the available models.
Funvention develops science, arts and puzzle kits for children of all ages. It intends to teach kids concepts of S.T.E.A.M – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics. Note: Made in India!
What comes with the pack?
The kit comes in a sturdy cardboard box which includes:
- A pack of the cardboard puzzle pieces + a marble eye piece
- Instruction manual with basic information about Apatosaurs
- A friendly letter from Funvention
How is Funvention Apatosaur model built?
The 3D model is built by joining the right and left sides of the Apatosaur. The individual pieces for each side are marked by codes (Ex. E1, E2…etc. in the above picture). Kids are to arrange the pieces one on top of the other, in the order of the codes and paste them together.
The left and the right side of the Apatosaur (as shown above) are then pasted together and the marble is fixed into the eye socket.
Here stands the magnificent Apatosaur!
Yes, it is as simple as it sounds!
What’s in it for kids?
Well, just what you can imagine! Children can learn spatial order organization and dexterity skills; get an understanding of three dimensions (when explained) and have some play fun.
What’s my take on Funvention Apatosaur?
When compared to other similar cardboard DIYs available in the market, Funvention’s is definitely of good quality and make. The model seems sturdy and durable. It is suitable for 4-years and 5-year-olds. Children with an inclination towards arts and crafts will find this activity interesting.
On the downside, it is an one-time activity. After those few minutes of active building, the kit might lose its glory (with respect to the Apatosaur model). Other activity kits from Funvention like the ones below should be able to sustain interest for a while, I assume:
Overall, each kit priced at around Rs. 200-300 is worth a spend for your children. These can be wonderful return gifts for kids and Funvention has good deals on packs of 10 or 12 or 3 or 6.
